Mother of God "Inviolate Mountain" Orthodox Icon
The Inviolate Mountain icon of the Mother of God depicts the Theotokos, holding Christ, and with the ladder seen by Jacob, the head of the King of Kings as is recorded in the prophet Ezekiel and mountains representing the wilderness which the Hebrews passed through after the great exodus. For Orthodox Christians these images serve as a typology in which Old Testament themes are seen as being fulfilled in the persons of Christ and His Mother.
